Report of the School Medical
Officer.
The School Health Service functioned as in previous years
except with the necessary modifications of procedure brought
about with the coming into operation of the Education Act
1944, on the 1st April.
Dental work was continued by the Dental Surgeon, and
diphtheria immunisation proceeded on the lines previously
described.
At the present time the School Medical Service remains
linked with the Maternity and Child Welfare and general
Public Health Services of the Borough and it is hoped that this
policy can be maintained.
At the end of 1945 there were 4,828 children on the roll
of the elementary schools, distributed as follows:

MEDICAL INSPECTION.
Routine medical inspections have not been confined only
to the usual prescribed age groups, and every endeavour has
been made to give as many school children as possible the
benefit of this examination.
