Appended below is a summary of the improvements
effected:—
(a) Rent reduced from 20/6 per week to 19/- and £7/16/-
returned to tenant.
(b) Rent reduced from 25/- to 10/-
(c) Rent reduced from 27/6 to 25/-
(d) Rent reduced from 13/6 to 5/-
(e) Rent reduced from 16/- to 12/- and £14/8/- returned
to tenant.
F (3)a. Shops Act 1912-1938.
With regard to the statutory hours of closing, it was
necessary to issue 9 warnings to shopkeepers upon the noncompliance
with the statute. No police court proceedings
were instituted during the year.
Infringements of Section 10 of the Shops Act 1934 relating
to health and comfort of shop assistants were located in the
following instances, and the necessary improvement being
subsequently effected:—
Shops cleansed and re-decorated 3
Floors renewed 3
W.C.s cleansed 1
Staff rooms cleansed 1
In accordance with Defence Regulations, the following
hours of closing were substituted for the closing hours enacted
by Section 1 of the Shops (Hours of Closing) Act 1928 during
the period 4th November, 1945 to 2nd March, 1946:
General Shops:
Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday 5.30 p.m.
Friday 6.30 p.m.
Saturday 5.30 p.m.
Hairdressers and Barbers:
Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday 7 p.m.
Friday 7 p.m.
Saturday 8 p.m.
No Order was made revoking closing hours during
Christmas week 1945.
F (3) b. Offices.
In no instance was it necessary to take action under
Section 46 Public Health Act 1936, in respect to sanitary
accommodation at offices, and in no case has it been found that
insufficient accommodation exist.
