Further Training of Teachers.
The following Courses for teachers in the service of the
Erith and Gravesend Authorities have been conducted during
the past year:—
(1) A Course of Physical Training for Men Teachers in Junior
Schools, held at the Dartford Technical College on two
afternoons each week throughout the period January
24th—March 81st.
(2) A similar Course for Women Teachers held in Krith on
Saturday mornings throughout the Autumn Term.
(3) Two Short Courses in Swimming Instruction for Men
and Women Teachers held during May.
In regard to Course (2) above, which was conducted on
Saturday mornings as an experiment, experience has tended
to establish the view that the most successful of teachers'
classes are those which are conducted during school time. The
problem of securing fully representative attendance by all
schools is tremendously increased when such attendance depends
upon the giving-up of so much of the teachers' leisure time.
Conclusion.
The continued interest and keenness of the teaching staff
generally and their increasing appreciation of the value and
importance of their work in Physical Education has resulted
in a year of sound progress.
Further development, however, depends to a considerable
extent upon the provision of additional facilities for more
advanced gymnastic work and organised games.
The Organisers wish to acknowledge their indebtedness
to the Education Committee for their continued confidence and
support and also to the head and assistant teachers upon whose
loyal co-operation the value of their work must always depend."
Co-operation of Parents, Teachers, &c.
The following figures will show the continued interest that
parents take in the medical examination of their children. At
Routine Medical Inspections the parents attended in 88 per
cent. of inspections in the case of infants, 86 per cent. in the
case of intermediates, and 64 per cent. in the case of leavers.
