Assistance Board and the Ministry of Labour (e.g., re-training and
change of occupation) play their part, as also do the Voluntary
Bodies.
The Local Sanitary Authority has certain powers, some of
which it shares with the Local Health Authority, which can be used
in the prevention of spread of Tuberculosis. These include powers
to prevent a person suffering from tuberculosis of the respiratory
tract and who is in an infectious state from employment involving
the handling of milk or food. Powers are also available in certain
circumstances, to remove a tuberculous person to Hospital. Finally,
and possibly the most practicable measure, is the power to give
sympathetic consideration to re-housing of tuberculous families to
prevent if possible the infection being passed on to other susceptible
members of the family, for in some instances, unsatisfactory living
conditions are directly responsible for the spread of infection to
other members of the family.

The following table gives particulars of the ages of the new cases notified and deaths from this disease during the year.
