Of these :
4 were discharged cured.
3 were about, to be discharged but final reports had not
been received from Head Teachers.
3 left school—one was almost cured.
1 discontinued treatment on going to the County School.
1 was discharged as no progress had been made.
11 ceased to attend during the evacuation period.
7 required a further period of treatment.
DEATHS AMONGST SCHOOL CHILDREN.
There were twenty-one deaths among school children during
the year. The causes were as follows :
6 Meningitis.
1 Asphyxia.
1 Sarcoma.
1 Heart failure.
1 Peritonitis.
1 Septicaemia.
1 Mastoid disease.
1 Uraemia.
1 Leukaemia.
3 Enemy action.
4 Accident. (1 burns ; 2 road ; 1 under anaesthetic.)
PROVISION OF MEALS.
Meals were provided for children at all the schools.
During 1944 24,826 dinners were provided free, and 567,478
were provided and paid for. 2,200,3002153,⅓ pint bottles of milk were
provided and paid for, and 39,568 were provided free.
BLIND, DEAF, EPILEPTIC AND MENTALLY
DEFECTIVE CHILDREN.
There are three blind children in Enfield, two of whom are
attending Residential Schools for the Blind.
