ASSISTED MILK SUPPLY.
The quantity of fresh and dried milk supplied free to necessitous
cases under the Council's Milk Supply Scheme during the year was
as follows:—
Fresh Milk Nil.
Dried Milk 1,459 lbs.; cost £135 16s. 8d.
Milk is supplied free or at reduced cost to all expectant and
nursing mothers and children under 5 years of age by the Ministry
of Food. The only cases where help from the Council is required
is where milk in addition to that supplied by the Ministry of Food
is necessary. It will be seen that in 1942 there were no such cases,
but a need for a supply of dried milk was found to exist. It is the
practice in these cases to notify the Office of the Ministry of Food to
secure that no child receives a double ration.
