BIRTH CONTROL
Throughout the year such advice was given on Birth Control
as is authorised by Memorandum 153 M. and C.W. and Circulars
1208 and 1408 of the Ministry of Health.
CIRCULATION OF BOOKLET ON REARING
OF CHILDREN.
The booklet "To Mothers and Fathers" was circulated as
heretofore. As the Council may recall, it has always been our
aim to circulate this booklet during pregnancy rather than after
the birth of the child in that much of the information in this book
is of value to the Expectant Mother.
ANTE-NATAL CLINICS.
During the year 1,453 individual mothers attended the Enfield
Ante-Natal Clinics. This indicates that nearly all Enfield mothers
attend our Clinics, with the exception of those who are under the
direct supervision of their own General Medical Practitioner.
It may be recalled that attendance at an ante-natal clinic
assures the provision not only of medical care, but of advice as
to social amenities and help that are of importance to the expectant
mother.
POST-NATAL CLINICS.
During the course of the year 218 mothers attended for examination
after their confinement. This compares with 181 in
1940.
This figure is still small but it shows a steady and very healthy
increase over previous years.
INFANT WELFARE CENTRES.
The total number of children who first attended at the Infant
Welfare Clinics was 1,552, compared with 1,654 in 1940.
VISITS.
The Council's Health Visitors paid 510 visits to Expectant
Mothers, 3,598 to children under one year of age, and 8,938 to
children between the ages of one and five years.
