Report of the Chief Sanitary
Inspector
For the year 1937.
To the Chairman and Members of the
Urban District Council of Enfield.
GentlemEn,
In submitting my Annual Report for the year ended 31st
December, 1937, there are some points to which I would direct
your attention.
I regret to say that certain food premises, e.g., milkshops
and bakehouses, are not receiving the attention I consider necessary.
This indicates the desirability of appointing an additional Sanitary
Inspector for the District.
The number of vacated Council houses inspected during the
year was much larger than in previous years. It is pleasing to
record that the percentage found verminous was much lower.
During the year the fifteen vehicles owned by the department
travelled 71,961 miles. The refuse collection lorries alone covered
57,090 miles to collect 19,000 tons of refuse. Thus each vehicle
travelled 3 miles to collect a ton of refuse or 61 miles per load.
The dustman's weekly call costs less than 3½d. per week per
house.
