your child catching colds.

CIRCULATION OF BOOKLET ON REARING OF CHILDREN.
During the course of the year approximately 1,513 booklets
called “ To Mothers and Fathers ” were sent to mothers giving birth
to a child.
HOME HELPS.
The number of Home Helps supplied during 1937 was 146 as
compared with 88 in 1936, 52 in 1935 and 30 in 1934.
MIDWIVES.
In 38 cases help was granted in respect of the cost of a midwife.
This compares with 5 in 1934, 36 in 1935 and 41 in 1936.
OBSTETRIC SPECIALIST.
The scheme whereby the General Practitioners of Enfield are
enabled to call in the help of the obstetrician at the North Middlesex
County Hospital in cases of doubt or difficulty during the ante-natal
period or at the confinement, has been continued. The Obstetrician
was called to four cases during the year. In one case three visits
were necessary.
On each occasion when the Specialist is called in a fee of £2 2s. od.
is paid to the Middlesex County Council and is recovered from the
patient or her husband to the extent to which the family circumstances
make this possible. During 1937 £8 18s. od. was recovered out
of a cost to the Council of £14 14s. od.
This service represents co-operation between the General
Practitioners, the Maternity and Child Welfare Committee and the
County Council. It has worked throughout the year without any
difficulty. It is a service of the greatest value to the district and one
which is much appreciated by all concerned.
