or manufacturing purposes, and 41 in part or wholly for domestic
use.
Where water is used exclusively for business purposes, manufacturers
or owners of nurseries have been asked to exhibit a notice
to the effect that the water is not to be used for drinking or domestic
purposes.
During the course of the year samples of water were taken from
60 wells supplying 71 houses and premises. The water was found
to be unsatisfactory in 41 cases; in 15 of these cases the water was
being used for drinking purposes.

these wells by a Mains water supply, and in others to arrange for a
continuous chlorination of the supply.
STREAMS AND WATER COURSES.
Turkey Street Brook and other streams in the District are under

on them by your Sanitary Staff. No sources of contamination were
detected.
DRAINAGE AND SEWERAGE.

with outfall to Cuckoo Hall Farm, where sewage is dealt with by
septic tanks, filters, and partly by irrigation.
Four men are employed daily, who devote their whole time to
the work of examining and flushing the sewers; any defect or obstruction
is dealt with immediately.
CESSPOOLS.
During 1937 the cesspools of the District were emptied by a
