The conveniences provided for men are now cleansed by wholetime
attendants, and there has been a considerable improvement in
cleanliness of these places since the Attendants commenced work.
The Council have under consideration at the present time the
alteration of the conveniences in the Town. This will be a great
improvement to the District, as the present conveniences in the
Market Place are now practically obsolete.
HORSE TROUGHS AND DRINKING FOUNTAINS.
Drinking fountains, and also four horse troughs in the District,
receive daily attention as regards cleansing.
PUBLIC MORTUARY.
One Public Mortuary in the District, established at the Enfield
Highway Cemetery, is constantly under supervision.
There is now a whole-time Attendant at the Mortuary.
RATS.
It is the responsibility of the householder to carry out such
measures as will prevent rat infestation. The Council have been,
and are, at all times willing to supplement efforts made by the
occupier to effect an improvement.
There still remains the serious question as to whether the
Health Department contains sufficient Staff to carry out the work
that now falls upon it.
Housing and other Acts are increasing the work of the Sanitary
• Inspectors, whilst at the same time the population and number
of houses in the District show rapid increase year by year.
I am of the opinion that increase in Staff is now required.
This Report would not be complete unless I again state how
much I appreciate the kindly manner in which Dr. GefEen, your
Medical Officer of Health, has always treated me and the Staff,
and the happy conditions under which we work. I also wish to
thank the Council for their continued courtesy and support, and all
the members of the Public Health Staff for the very competent
manner in which they have carried out their duties, and for their
help during the past year.
I am, Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
FRED WILSON, M.R.San.I., M.S.I.A.,
Chief Sanitary Inspector.
