CESSPOOLS.
The various cesspools in the District are examined and emptied
by special members of the staff, a proportion of the cost of the work
entailed being charged to the owner or occupier of the property.
The emptying of cesspools was carried out during nights
in the Cockfosters district from January 16th to the end of the
year, and was done to the entire satisfaction of everyone concerned.
SCHOOLS AND HOSPITALS.
The arrangement with the Education Committee is still carried
out as regards the conveniences at all non-provided Schools, and
these receive daily attention as regards cleansing by one of the
employees of this Department. The drainage systems of all elementary
and secondary schools in the District are examined by the
Sanitary Inspectors.
At both the Isolation Hospital and the Enfield War Memorial
Hospital the sanitary arrangements are under the supervision of
this Department, and those at the Isolation Hospital are attended
to regularly in accordance with arrangements made by the Joint
Hospital Board, while those at the War Memorial Hospital are
attended to weekly as a voluntary service on the part of the Council.
In addition a large amount of disinfection has been carried
out at the latter Hospital free of charge.
PUBLIC CONVENIENCES.
The public conveniences at the parks and pleasure grounds,
and also five attached to public-houses, making eighteen in all, are
under the supervision of this Department.
Those attached to the public houses receive daily attention
by a man specially detailed from this Department for that purpose,
and are kept in a satisfactory condition.
The others attached to the Parks and Pleasure Grounds
while under the supervision of this Department, are attended to
by Park Attendants, etc. as part time employment, and this method
is not proving satisfactory and the time is approaching when
the question of more full-time attendance being given to these
conveniences should be gone into.
HORSE TROUGHS AND DRINKING FOUNTAINS.
Drinking fountains, and also four horse troughs in the
District, receive daily attention as regards cleansing.
