UNSOUND MEAT AND FOODS.
In this connection frequent visits were paid to the slaughterhouses,
shops and markets, the number of inspections for this
purpose being:—
Slaughterhouses 1,887
Shops 662
Stalls in Markets 772
3,321
PUBLIC HEALTH (MEAT) REGULATIONS, 1924.
The procedure of the method of inspection of meat under the
above Regulations continues as in the past four years.
While every effort is made to secure the cleanly handling of
such foodstuffs as come under the Meat Regulations, the bad old
system of tradesmen being allowed to deposit bread, milk, etc., on
people's doorsteps and sills continues in the district, and unfortunately
there are no Regulations to govern the matter.
The amount of slaughtering has increased to such an extent that
it. continues till late hours on week-day evenings as well as Saturday
afternoons and evenings and part of Sunday.
