There was only one death from this disease during the year,
and this of a child between the ages of 1 and 2 years.
Although this disease was fairly prevalent throughout the year,
the figures show that only one child died of it.
The question of appointing a Visitor for looking after these
cases of Measles was considered by the Council towards the latter
end of the year, and no doubt the arrangement will come into effect
during the coming one.
Enteritis.
Four deaths occurred from this disease during the year, all of
which were infants under one year.
Epidemic Diarrhœa.
One death of an infant under one year occurred from this disease
during the year.
HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATION.
The district is served by the Enfield and Edmonton Joint
Board's Isolation Hospital, which is situated upon 27 acres of land
at Winchmore Hill, about 3½ miles from the centre of the town, and
contains 163 beds, 12 of which are in a special cubicle block, which
has been found to be of great service in the treatment of cases of
doubtful diagnosis, and in the isolation of patients who are admitted
suffering from more than one infectious disease.
The following cases of infectious disease were removed there
from the Enfield district:—
Scarlet Fever 184
Diphtheria 45
FOOD.
The cows are inspected bi-annually by Mr. H. H. Hide,
M.R.C.V.S., the Veterinary Surgeon appointed by the Council, and
I append copies of his two reports for the year, which are very
satisfactory, and tend to show that the Enfield dairy farmer is fully
alive to the danger of keeping tuberculous cows on his premises.
The total number of cows referred to in these reports were 456
in April, and 426 in December.
