There were two prosecutions, resulting in conviction in each
case.
OTHER FOODS.
Mr. Fred Wilson and Mr. T. M. Boswell, the Assistant Sanitary
Inspectors, who hold the Certificate of the Royal Sanitary
Institute for Inspector of Meat and Foods, visit the slaughterhouses,
of which there are 18 in the district, every week, and as will
be seen by a reference to the Sanitary Inspector's report, they paid
785 such visits, examined 1,924 carcases, and secured the surrender
of 33 parcels of diseased organs.
The sanitary condition of the slaughter-houses is on the whole
satisfactory.
BAKEHOUSES.
I visited the 44 bakehouses in the District, of which 41 are in
use, and found them all in a satisfactory condition.
HOUSING.
At the Census of 1901 it was found that the average number of
persons inhabiting a house in Enfield was 5 35, w hereas in 1911
the number was reduced to 5T2. It therefore seems to me that in
view of this, and the fact that there has been no sudden influx of
population, nor any great increase in the number of inhabited
houses, and from the personal knowledge of your sanitary staff,
that the housing accommodation is sufficiently adequate for the
needs of the District.
The Regulations issued by the Local Government Board under
Section 17 (1) Housing, Town Planning, etc. Act, 1909, are
receiving close attention. A list was prepared of houses and
streets, the early inspection of which was, in my opinion, desirable,
those being first selected which had not been inspected for some
time, and where there was evidence that attention was again
needed.
The following are the particulars required by Article 5 of these
Regulations to be included in my Report:—
Number of dwelling-houses inspected 727
Number of houses considered on inspection to be in
a condition so dangerous as to be unfit for
human habitation 26
Number of houses closed and demolished without
orders 6
Number of houses closed and demolished following
closing orders 0
