PREVENTION OF BLINDNESS
Gases of ophthalmia neonatorum are promptly visited and, if thought
necessary, are removed to hospital for treatment. No cases of blindness
have arisen during the year due to this cause.
As provided by Section 175 (1) of the Public Health Act, 1936,
arrangements exist with the Middlesex County Council for the treatment at
the school clinics of adolescents who are ascertained at school to bo
suffering from defective vision.
ORTHOPAEDIC TREATMENT
Details of this scheme were set out in my Report for 1939. Financial
assistance was rendered for the supply of surgical appliances in 2 cases
during the year.
