East Barnet Urban District Council
ANNUAL REPORT
OF THE
CHIEF SANITARY INSPECTOR
FOR THE YEAR 1955
To the Chairman and Members of the
East Bar net Urban District Council
I have the honour to present my fourth report to the Council.
The number of visits made during the year remained approximately
at the same level as the previous year. The Housing Survey was completed
in June and one of the two additional staff left when the work
was finished. As the work of the department has increased considerably
more than is reflected in the number of visits it was found
necessary to retain the other temporary officer to assist with the
housing problem.
The Council's programme for Clearance and Demolition in the
next five years was shown in the return made to the Minister under
Section 1 of the Housing (Repairs and Rents) Act, 1954, and by
division shows that on the average 30 houses in Clearance Areas
and 4 individual unfits have to be dealt with year by year. As part
of this programme 23 houses in Albert Road were declared a
Clearance Area by the Council in June and a further area is at present
in the course of preparation.
As may be seen by my report on Food and Drugs the number of
samples taken, etc., is being maintained and contraventions of the Act
are still being found. In January 1956 as mentioned in the paragraph
