At the Grange School, which is built in such a way that
by opening up the South side, consisting of movable glass and
wood partitions, the classrooms can be made practically into
open-air classrooms, greater use might be made of the facilities
offered. Every effort should be made by the teachers to obtain
the maximum advantage from this arrangement which can be utilised
in such a way as materially to benefit their own and the children's
health
PHYSICAL TRAINING.
No Organiser of Physical Exercises has been appointed.
Active steps, however, were taken during the year to develop
organised games in connection with all the schools. Pitches have
been allotted in the various Public Parks for school children playing
cricket, football and netball during school hours
PROVISION OF MEALS.
No meals are provided for school children under Section
82-85 of the Education Act. It is very rare for children, who have
not been sufficiently fed, to present themselves at school but when
children are discovered who are in need of food this is provided
by the head-teachers out of small funds placed at their disposal
by voluntary means. The food supplied usually takes the form of
milk or cocoa and milk and biscuits.
SCHOOL BATHS.
Baths are not provided at the schools excepting at Greenford
Avenue, which was taken over with other schools in Hanwell
on the 1st October.
At the Public Baths, however, one swimming bath is reserved
exclusively for school children, in whose physical training instruction
in swimming by skilled teachers is included.
So great has been the demand for the use of this bath that
another bath has also been requisitioned on certain days of the week
for school children.
