Schools.—The Sanitary Inspectors make a regular and
thorough examination once a year, during the vacation, of all public
elementary and private schools and on their reports steps are taken
to remedy defects.
In connection with the prevention of spread of infectious
disease the head-teachers send to the Medical Officer of Health, at
the end of each week, a list of all children who are absent on
account of non-notifiable infectious disease. These notifications
enable the Health Visitors to visit the homes and to give the mothers
advice regarding the prevention of the spread of the disease and
the care of the patient, particularly with a view to the prevention
of complications.
