Professional Nursing in the Home,
(1) General.—The Ealing Nursing Association has provided
nursing assistance for the poorer inhabitants in the area of the
old Borough and the Hanwell District Nursing Association in the
Hanwell area. After the extension of the boundaries of the
Borough took place on the 1st October the proposal was put forward
that these two associations should amalgamate and since the end
of the year this amalgamation has taken place. The new Association
called the Greater Ealing District Nursing Association, has
undertaken to provide nursing assistance in the whole of the extended
Borough, Three nurses are employed, but it is hoped that
in the near future a fourth may be appointed.
(2) infectious Disease.—-Since the amalgamation of the two
Nursing Associations the new Association has agreed to
undertake for the Town Council the nursing of cases of
ophthalmia neonatorum, measles, whooping cough, poliomyelitis
and diarrhoea occurring in children under five years of age. For
these services the Council has arranged to make an annual contribution
of £150 to the funds of the Association.
(3) Midwives.—There are 26 midwives (five of these being in
the Maternity Hospital) in the district. All are trained midwives
with the C.M.B. certificate. They are under the supervision of the
County Council.
The Town Council, in its scheme of maternity and child welfare,
does not employ any particular midwife to attend women, who
are in necessitous circumstances, at their confinement, but the
midwife nearest the woman's residence is engaged and paid by
the Council, As the work of all the midwives in the district has
been found to be of a high standard any one can be employed by
the Local Authority with confidence.
