HOME SAFETY
The Council agreed during the year to the establishment of a Home Safety Advisory
Committee (under the auspices of the Public Health Committee) with the broad functions
of enlisting and stimulating the interest of local organisations in the work of home
safety and carrying on a continuous local propaganda campaign to keep the public
informed of the gravity and extent of the problem. The first meeting of the Advisory
Committee was held in October, 1958.
During the national campaign entitled "Guard that Fire" in November, the work
undertaken locally included the following:—
22,000 leaflets were distributed through the schools.
300 posters were exhibited throughout the Borough.
Two multiple dairy firms and the Borough Council displayed symbols on all
their vehicles.
The four cinemas in the Borough made some reference to the campaign during
the last week of November.
18 talks were given to local organisations.
