service which takes account of this and which attempts to stimulate the patient mentally
so as to keep him or her more interested in both the present and future than in the past.
"More life trickles out through a man's thoughts than through a gaping wound,"
said Thomas Hardy, and to no age group is this more applicable than to the over sixties.
It would be remiss of me if I were not to acknowledge the help I have received
from the Chairmen and members of the various committees who have any share in the
services which this report covers.
My thanks are due to all the members of my staff who have each played a part in
the running of the service and on whom the quality of the service must depend. Their
co-operation with each other, with other departments and with the public is paramount
in providing a first-class service, for as has been said on many occasions, public health
is team work.
