Acute Sick
The demand for the service in these cases has remained fairly steady as compared
with the previous year.
Care of Children
One of the most valuable contributions the service makes is in helping to keep a
family together in cases where the mother has to enter hospital. As in previous years,
in a number of cases the home help has visited the mother in hospital to give her news
of her family and to assure her that they are being well looked after during her absence.
Recruitment
Many recruits came forward during the year, anxious to become home helps, and
great care was given by the organiser in selecting suitable types for this very exacting
service which is making an ever increasing contribution to the social services.
Training
As in previous years, a course was held in Chelmsford organised by the County
Council for instruction in the duties of a home help and to give the necessary background
knowledge of other workers with whom the home help might come into contact.
Social Activities
A visit to the London Palladium and a Christmas party were both arranged by the
organiser but, unfortunately, fog prevented many people from attending the Christmas
party.
