Visits to patients, both ante-natal and nursing, totalled 7,604
in 1956.
In the first half of 1956, 130 cases were attended and in the
second six months 79 cases.
Of the total 209, 179 received an analgesic, most of the others
preferring to be without.
Both gas and air and Trilene analagesia were used and records
of advantages and disadvantages of the methods were made for a
survey now being undertaken by the Essex County Council.
Ante-natal clinics at York House continued to be well attended.
Five clinics are held each week, three staffed by the Medical Officer,
nurses and midwives, and two by midwives.
One relaxation class conducted by the Health Visitor continues
to be popular.
