At the beginning of the year Dr. Helen Mair was appointed
Deputy Medical Officer of Health and Assistant County Medical
Officer, and Dr. E. P. James as Assistant County Medical Officer.
My thanks are due to the Chairman and Members of the
Committees concerned with the administration of the services
covered by this report, and to all the staff and particularly to
the heads of sections for their co-operation and help in this my
first full year of work in Dagenham.
This report should be read in conjunction with that of the
work of the School Health Service as no report on the health of
the area can be complete unless all age groups are considered
together, so that in future years it is hoped to submit a complete
report covering the work of the department as a whole.
J. ADRIAN GILLET,
Medical Officer of Health.
Public Health Department,
Civic Centre,
Dagenham.
