Midwives.
Nine Council Midwives, including one Senior Midwife
with special experience, are employed, and by agreement
seven nurses employed by the District Nursing
Association and-two by the Salvation Army are in practice.
In addition to these there are three independent
midwives residing in the area.
Laboratory Facilities.
With the exception of Diphtheria swabs and occa-
sionally other investigations which are examined at the
Public Health Offices, the bulk of the clinical investigations
are undertaken by the Counties Public Health
Laboratories now situate at Gidea Park College, Romford.
During the year 1942 arrangements were made for
pathological investigations to take place at the laboratory
at Oldchurch County Hospital.
I take this opportunity of acknowledging with thanks
the service which has been carried out for many years
by the Counties Public Health Laboratories.
Legislation in Force.
There has been no change in local legislation since
the date of the last report.
