SANITARY CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE AREA.
Water.
At the instigation of the Medical Officer of Health,
the County Medical Officer called a meeting of Medical
Officers of Health of eight districts in the South Essex
Waterworks Company's area of supply. As a result of
the deliberations of the Conference and subsequent
consultations with the Company, there has been
arranged:—
(a) A co-ordinated system of sampling by the local
authorities to avoid adjoining districts taking, for
example, simultaneous samples of the same water
supply. Each local authority will take a sample
once a month, in accordance with a rota. The
Company will be given the opportunity of being
present and taking a check sample.
(b) That the Company shall, in relation to their own
tests, supply to each Medical Officer of Health:—
(1) a copy of any particular analysis on request ;
(2) an annual statement of examinations carried
out by the Company during the year upon
request; and
(3) full details whenever the Company's bacteriologist
agrees that any particular source of
supply is unsatisfactory.
(c) That each Medical Officer of Health shall supply to
the Company prompt notification of "cases of
enteric fever or other diseases likely to be waterborne."
It does not appear to be necessary to
