The death of Miss D.W.M.Lyell, Deputy Head and a member of the
Staff for 33 years was indeed a tragic loss to the School. It was
agreed that a permanent reminder of her years of devoted service to so
many handicapped persons should be established in the form of an
'Adventure Playground' .
Swimming continued at a very high level until the percentage of
children receiving swimming certificates reached 67% and further
advanced awards were made by the English Schools' Swimming Association.
The average number on the roll was 196, the attendance was 86%.
There were 50 admissions during the year, whilst 18 children left for
employment, 25 returned to other schools and 2 children died.
Finally I wish to place on record my thanks to the Principal School
Medical Officer and Staff and to all members of the Staff of St, Giles'
School for their support during 1963.
