LOAN OF HOME NURSING EQUIPMENT
Demands for the loan of the enuresis machines increased substantially
and there was a long waiting list at the end of the
year. There have been many reports from various parts of the
country about the success of this method for treating enuresis,
which supports our own findings, and arrangements were made to
increase the supply of machines available for loan. A request
was also received during the year for the loan of a patient's
hoist. This is an expensive item of equipment, costing over £70
but in selected cases, it may greatly ease the burden of home
nursing. It requires a fair amount of floor space and in some
houses, its use is not possible. For those who are permanently
crippled, the question of loan does not arise, since the apparatus
is needed permanently and for such cases, it was agreed
with the Chief Welfare Officer that the Welfare Committee would
consider applications as for similar permanent adaptations of
premises to accommodate crippled persons. Two hoists were purchased
by the Corporation and a third machine was donated to the
Croydon District Nursing Association.
