There is no record of a case of typhoid fever amongst the
sewage farm workers, but it was thought prudent to offer them
vaccination against typhoid fever. Warnings were issued to members
of a Bird Watchers' Club, who are allowed access to the
sewage farm land, and there was a re-check of the fencing and
warning notices intended to keep out unauthorised persons. Sewage
farm staff were also asked to notify the Medical Officer of
Health of any person suffering similar accidents to those described
so that approach could be made to the family doctor for
prophylactic chemotherapy to be administered. The danger seems
limited to the actual swallowing of the semi-liquid sewage
sludge and the dried product after it has been dug into the land
is free from risk.
