COUNTY BOROUGH OF CROYDON
ANNUAL REPORT
OF THE PRINCIPAL
SCHOOL MEDICAL OFFICER
FOR THE YEAR
1960
To the Chairman and Members of the Education Committee.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,
This is the 57th Annual Report to be made to the Croydon
Education Authority by the Principal School Medical Officer.
Mainly, it is a record of the normal performance of routine
duties. Medical inspections in the schools were less than last
year, when an especial effort was made to deal with arrears due
to the polio vaccination campaign of 1958. All the names of
children brought forward by Head Teachers were included in
examination sessions and work was therefore up-to-date at the
close of the year. The results call for no special comments.
Because Heights and Weights now seem to have reached a constant
level after the post-war rise, there may be no need to
continue taking and recording these figures for the two intermediate
age groups. A check on children entering and leaving
school should be sufficient to show any significant changes.
Specific infectious diseases caused the average amount of
absence, but there were no major epidemics requiring special
measures.
