(12) The Corporation will consult with the Executive Council and
Local Medical Committee regarding any necessary administrative
arrangements to ensure close co-ordination with family doctors.
Every effort will be made to acquaint general practitioners with
matters concerning their patients by personal approach of the
officers concerned, by correspondence and by invitationsto
attend any relevant clinical conferences.
(13) The Corporation will continue their support of voluntary
organisations concerned with mental health, such as the National
Association for Mental Health, the Mental After-Care Association
and the Guardianship Society, by using their services, membership
of appropriate councils or committees and subscriptions to
their funds.
Services to be Provided
(14) The Corporation propose to carry out their duties under
Section 28 of the National Health Service Act, 1946, in accordance
with the following provisions:-
Junior Training Centres.
(15) The Corporation maintain an Occupation Centre with 90
places, staffed by a Supervisor, five Assistants and a Handicraft
Instructor. Those attending are transported to and from the
Centre and a mid-day meal is supplied.
(16) Medical and dental inspections are carried out by the staff
of the School Health Service and dental treatment is provided by
school dentists. There is a small scheme for the employment of
suitable male defectives on gardening duties, for which they are
paid pocket money.
(17) It is proposed that the existing Occupation Centre of 90
places shall be continued until provision of an adult training
centre allows the separation of individuals over 16 years of
age, who are at present in attendance. Approximately 60 places
will then be needed for children between the ages of five and
sixteen years, to which may be added a small nursery section of
approximately six places.
(18) Arrangements for transport to and from the Centre will continue,
together with the provision of a mid-day meal, dental
treatment and medical inspection.
(19) As a future development, the Corporation are considering the
replacement of the existing adapted buildings by new premises
designed especially for this purpose.
