CHIROPODY SERVICE
Explanatory Leaflet and conditions of Service for chiropodists
The Corporation intend to introduce a limited Chiropody
Service for the following persons, who are permanent residents
of the county Borough of Croydon:-
(1) Old Age Pensioners. (drawing old age pensions from the
Ministry of Pensions or the National Assistance Board).
(2) Permanently Handicapped Persons. whose disability makes
Chiropody necessary.
(3) Expectant Mothers.
Treatment will be provided by Chiropodists in their own
surgeries as for their other fee paying patients. The Corporation
will pay 3/- towards the cost of each treatment, the balance of
the Chiropodist's normal charge to be met by the patient. However,
for patients in receipt of non-contributory old age
pensions or National Assistance Board benefit, the Corporation
will pay 6/- for each treatment, on the understanding that no
additional fee is to be charged by the Chiropodist to the
patient. (These are interim amounts to be reviewed when a
National Whitley Council scale is agreed).
Payment will be claimed by the Chiropodist on forms to be
supplied by the Corporation.
As there is a limited sum available for this service, each
Chiropodist will be notified the total amount he or she may
claim during any one financial year. It will be necessary for
the Chiropodist to refuse patients under this scheme if this
amount is expended before the end of the financial year, as
payment will not be made by the Corporation in excess of the sum
allocated to the Chiropodist.
Before treatment is given, expectant mothers must show a
medical certificate confirming pregnancy or a booking slip
signed by a general practitioner under, the National Health
Service Maternity Regulations or an ante-natal clinic card.
Handicapped persons must hand in a certificate from the
family doctor certifying permanent disability and need for
Chiropody.
The Corporation may only make arrangements for this scheme
with Chiropodists qualified in accordance with the National
Service (Medical Auxiliaries) Regulations, 1954.
