Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour herewith to present my nineteenth Annual

report is the 47th of the series of such reports.
The population of the town as estimated by the Registrar-

During the year 2,105 marriages were solemnized, a marriage
rate of 9.0 per 1,000 of the population.
The Birth Rate was 20.6 per 1,000, an increase of 2.8 per
1,000 over that for 1945. There were 4,800 live births of whom
2,444 were males and 2,362 females. Of these approximately
42.08 per cent. were born in hospital, and 24.07 in Registered
Maternity Homes. There were 314 illegitimate births, a percentage
of 6.5 of the total live births. This is 4.3 below the 1945
figure.
