JUVENILE EMPLOYMENT RETURN.
The following numbers of children were examined by the medical officers during 1946 as to their fitness to following the part-time employment indicated: —

(As from the 6th August all milk in schools was provided
free and was limited at that time to l/3rd pint per child per
day. The total number taking milk increased from 69 per
cent, in June, 1946, to 96 per cent, in October, 1946.)

of the School Medical Officer and are supplied free
of cost.)
All the milk supplied is pasteurised milk and the sources of
supply are subject to the approval of, and constant supervision
of the Medical Officer of Health.
There has been a large increase in the amount of Malt and
Oil ordered. It is due to anxiety on the part of the medical
officers to safeguard the children's health under existing dietary
restrictions.
