1,025 cases were treated to their termination (other than death) during the year, and the results were classed as follows :—

Maternal Mortality (Obstetric Service).
Seven deaths occurred of mothers dealt with by the Service,
one in a "Booked" case and 6 emergencies.*
The maternal mortality of "Booked" cases, i.e., cases under
the continued supervision of the Service, is 0.62 per 1,000
hospital deliveries, and 0.38 per 1,000 total deliveries, including
the Municipal Midwives "Booked" cases.
Puerperal Infection.
Thirty-six cases were treated in isolation for puerperal
infection, 9 of them in the Borough Hospital and 35 in St. Mary's
and Mayday Hospitals. There was no death.
