Statistics of the Year's Work.
On the 1st January, 1937, 608 cases were under treatment at
the Clinic. Of these, 562 completed a course of T.A.M. and 41
of T.A.F., while 5 defaulted, so that 603 of the cases carried over
from 1936 completed their treatment and had a posterior Schick
Test performed.
In 1937, 1,286 new cases attended, 1,017 being given a
Primary or Anterior Schick Test, while 269 younger children
under 5 years commenced their course with no primary test.
The new cases in 1937 were derived from the following sources—
Definite School cases 928
Definite Infant Welfare Centre cases 155
Others under 5 years 198
Nursery School 5
1,286
Of the 1,017 which were submitted to a Primary Schick Test
877 were found to be positive, giving a percentage of 86%; while
140 were negative, a percentage of 14%. A more detailed table
giving the result of Schick Tests at ages is appended.
574 of the new 1937 cases completed a course of T.A.M.
and 45 a course of T.A.F., making a total of 619 completed
cases. Cases are not considered completed, even though they
had received three injections, if they had not been proved
negative by a re-test. 511 cases were unfinished on December
31st, 1937, including 41 cases that had received A.P.T. and were
awaiting a re-test. 16 cases defaulted or left the district.
31 teachers who commenced an immunizing course have not
been included in the above figures.
The 603 cases carried over from 1936, together with the 619
cases, give 1,222, which is the total number of cases that
completed an immunizing course with a posterior Schick Test, in
1937. The total number of cases that attended for testing or
treatment, whether completed or not, and not counting defaulters,
was 1,894.
