DENTAL TREATMENT FOR MATERNITY AND CHILD
WELFARE PATIENTS.
Expectant and nursing mothers and young children requiring
treatment are referred by the medical officers attending the
Ante-Natal and Post-Natal Clinics.
Now that there has been inaugurated a Municipal Midwives
Service women may be referred from this source for treatment as
if they had been referred from the Ante-Natal Clinic.
Four dental officers devote one-eleventh of their time to
the treatment of expectant and nursing mothers and young children.
This small amount of time is inadequate to deal with the large
number of cases awaiting treatment, and in the circumstances
it has been impossible to treat all the cases referred by the
medical officers. There were 206 cases awaiting treatment on
December 31st, 1937.
It is hoped that a new appointment will be made in 1938,
and it will be possible then to offer a more complete service for
the treatment of these patients.

The following table gives a summary of the work accomplished during the year for patients referred under the Maternity and Child Welfare treatment scheme:—
