INFANT MORTALITY.
211 deaths of Croydon infants under one year of age occurred
in 1926 (Appendix, Table 1.), giving an infant mortality (number
of deaths under one year of age per 1,000 births) of 61, compared
with 55 in 1925.
The infant mortality for the live years 1922-26 was: 64, 52,
56, 55, 61.
The following gives a comparison with corresponding infant mortality rates in other areas:—

A.—Professional Nursing in the Home.
The particulars set out in the report for 1925 hold good, and
need not here be repeated.
B.—Mid wives.
No practising midwives are employed or subsidised bv the
local authority.
72 midwives practised in the Borough in 1926.
