2. Course of five lessons in Physical Exercises, Games and Dances
for Teachers in Infants' departments.
3. A Demonstration of Class Methods in the Teaching of Swimming,
arranged by the Croydon Elementary Schools Swimming
Association, at the Central Baths, April 22nd. This
took place in school hours, and one teacher from every senior
department was allowed to attend.
4. An Intensive Course for Women Teachers in Girls' and Junior
Mixed departments. This course was the first of its kind held
in Croydon. Thirty-three teachers attended for ten mornings,
June 14th-25th, and the time-table included physical exercises,
short lectures, demonstrations with classes of children, dancing
and playground games.
5. A second Intensive Course, similar to No. 4, was held, October
18th to November 2nd (the half term holiday intervening), at
which 24 teachers were present. Those who attended these
courses speak enthusiastically of the benefits derived and the
results are apparent in increased enthusiasm and improved
work in the schools from which they attended.
6. On Saturday, June 26th, all teachers were invited to attend a
special exhibition of films illustrating school physical training
and swimming, at the Palladium Cinema. This performance
was well attended.
7. On July 13th an inter-team Games' Competition was held
between the women teachers and men teachers. Intensive
courses and an enjoyable evening resulted.
8. On October 12th a reunion class was held for those who
attended the first Women's Course, and it is hoped to hold
further reunions of this description from time to time, and so
to keep those who attend in touch with up-to-date methods and
fresh ideas.
The East Surrey branch of the English Folk Dance Society
has conducted classes in Country, Morris and Sword dances
throughout the year at Winterbourne School, and these classes
have been well attended by Croydon teachers with the result that
Country dancing is now well taught in the majority of girls'
departments. Boys and girls from twelve schools provided a
programme of English Country dances at the League of Nations
