The congestion at the Thornton Heath Baths is still great,
and an extra session for girls at this bath is very desirable. Only
one session is available, and five of our largest girls' schools have
to be fitted in.
Fifteen girls' departments held swimming galas of their own
in addition to taking part in the Inter-schools Gala.
Sixteen schools took advantage of the privilege of using the
Recreation Grounds for Organised Games lessons, but the attendance
was again somewhat irregular, as it is inadvisable to take
the girls if the weather is at all unsettled, owing to the considerable
walk from the school and the lack of suitable shelter in case
of rain.
The Netball section of the Croydon Elementary Schools
Athletic Association arranged two Tournaments—Senior and
Junior. The Senior Cup, presented by Harry Lewis, Esq., was
won by Tavistock, as was also the Junior Cup, presented by the
headmistresses of Winterbourne and Tavistock Schools.
The Annual Athletic Sports arranged by the Croydon
Elementary Schools Athletic Association was held at the Crystal
Palace on June 30th. Several Girls' Schools also held sports of
their own.
The following Courses and Demonstrations for Teachers were
held during the year:—
1. A course of six lessons in Physical Exercises, Games and
Dances for Teachers in Senior departments.
