MILK.
The milk supply of the Borough is derived principally from
the south, south-east and south-west counties, the greater proportion
being rail-borne. Only a small percentage is produced in the
Borough, due largely to the decreasing amount of land (owing to
building operations) available for pasture.
The various premises in the Borough dealing with milk
received careful attention during the year, and in consequence a
considerable number of amendments were carried out, including
the building of new dairies and the remodelling of other premises
on modern lines.
The provision of covered ventilated counter pans in milk shops
has made good progress during the year.
One firm retails bottled milk exclusively, but it is interesting
to note that almost without exception all other milk vendors also
supply bottled milk, and it seems probable that in the near future
milk will be retailed almost entirely in this manner.
