The legal maximum of Chlorine allowed is 30 parts per
100,000. In regard to sample No. 2 a satisfactory explanation was
given in this case.
SMOKE OBSERVATIONS.
During the year 12 observations were made of factory chimneys
for the purposes of detecting offences under the Act. 3
notices were sent and amendments carried out to stop the nuisance.
AMUSEMENT HOUSES.
266 visits were made to theatres, music halls, cinemas and
premises where stage plays are given. Attention was given to the
ventilation of the halls, sanitary conveniences, structures and
cleanliness of the dressing rooms. A report is submitted to the
Licensing Authorities annually. Notices were issued requiring
the carrying out of the following amendments :—
To remove accumulation of refuse.
Repair w.c. seats.
„ lavatory basins.
,, floor.
,, w.c. flushing cistern.
Remove stoppage from drains.
Cleanse w.c. walls.
KEEPING OF ANIMALS.
167 visits were made in connection with the keeping of
animals. There are 79 premises where pigs are kept in the
Borough.
3 notices were served to discontinue the keeping of pigs owing
to the premises being within 100 feet of a dwelling, 12 further
notices were served to abate nuisances arising from various causes
in connection with the keeping of pigs, and 34 notices were served
to abate nuisances arising from the keeping of other animals.
SHEDS AND OTHER ERECTIONS IN YARDS OF
DWELLING HOUSES, ETC.
The erections of sheds, fowl houses, chicken runs and rabbit
houses, in the back yards of dwelling houses and other premises
appears to be on the increase, and the powers governing such are
certainly not sufficient to cope with the conditions which often arise
and which become a menace to the health of the community.
