Classes for Dull and Backward Children.

Special Classes for dull and backward children have been established in the following schools:—

West Thornton Hoys' and Infants'.
Davidson Boys'.
Ecclesbourne Boys' and Girls'.
Ingram Boys.
Rectory Manor Boys'.
Sydenham Boys'.
Tavistock Girls'.
Whitehorse Manor Boys' and Girls'.
Winterbourne Girls' and Infants'.
Woodside Girls'.
South Norwood Girls'.
Norbury Manor Senior Mixed.

After taking a modified curriculum in these classes children are
drafted into the ordinary classes of the schools, as and when they
reach the required standard.
PHYSICALLY DEFECTIVE CHILDREN.
Early in 1925 a school for 40 physically defective children
was opened on a site adjoining the Winterbourne Road Council
School. The school consists of two class-rooms opening by double
doors on to a playground to the south, admirably adapted for
open-air classes during the summer months; a teacher's room,
which is utilised also for massage and a certain amount of remedial
exercises work; and a kitchen at which a two-course mid-day meal
is provided on each school day. At first a certain proportion of
delicate children were admitted as well as cripples, but it was later
found advisable to utilise the school wholly for children suffering
from crippling defects. Arrangements have been established for
the provision of massage and remedial exercises at the school; and
the school has been linked up, and will co-operate to a steadily
increasing extent, with the Orthopasdic Scheme, the development
of which was commenced in the middle of 1925.
NURSERY SCHOOLS.
No Nursery Schools have been established in the Borough.
CENTRAL SCHOOLS.

Lady Edridge School for Girls) set out in last year's report have
