POPULATION.
The population in June, 1925, as estimated by the RegistrarGeneral,
was 199,300, an increase of 3,300 on the previous year,
and of 8,423 since 1921.

BIRTHS.

3,406 births were registered during the year, grouped as follows in respect of sex and legitimacy (see Appendix, Table I.):

The birth-rate per 1,000 of the population was thus 17.1. The
successive birth-rates in the five years 1921-5 were: 18.9; 18.2;
17.4; 17.6, and 17.1.

The following table sets out a comparison between the birthrate for Croydon, for London, for the large towns, and for the country as a whole during during recent years:—

Of the total Croydon births in 1925, 3.8 per cent. were illegitimate,
compared with 4.8 per cent. in 1924.
DEATHS.
2,169 deaths of Croydon residents were registered in respect of
the year 1925 (Appendix, Table I.), giving a death-rate of 10.9 per
1,000 head of population. The corresponding rates for the five
years 1921-25 were:—10.7; 12.4; 10.4; 11.6; 10.9.
