REPORT ON SCHOOL MEDICAL WORK.
THE STAFF AND GENERAL 0RGANISATION OF
THE WORK.
The medical inspection staff consists, as in 1917, of two medicals
—one lady and one gentleman—both of whom give only part time to
the school work.
SCHOOLS.
No. of Schools and Accommodation.
In 1918 there were in Croydon :
24 provided schools, including 57 departments. Five
schools have been taken over for Military hospital
purposes, and temporary premises have been rented, so
that the accommodation is approximately as in 1917.
14 non-provided schools, including 27 departments. There
has not been any change in the accommodati6n of
non-provided schools.
The total provision in 1918 in the borcugh for elementary school
children amounted to 38 schools, with 84 departments.
The number of children on the register on December 31st, 1918,
was 25,200, as coriipared with 25,187 in 1917.
School Buildings and Accommodation.
War Hospitals. The school children displaced by the Military
Authorities have been accommodated either in other schools for
half-day work or in the buildings. The medical inspections have
been carried out normally in every case, although in some schools the
accommodation for the work is poor.
Sanitary Work.
The sanitary arrangements of all the schools have been regularly
inspected during the year. They have been generally well kept.
