DAIRIES, COWSHEDS & MILK SHOPS ORDER.
There were 30 cowsheds on the register at the end of the year, of
which 24 were in occupation, as against 28 on the register and 25 in
occupation at the end of 1914.
The cowsheds at present on the register provide accommodation
for 450 cows, allowing 800 cubic feet per head of air space. The
number of cows in the registered sheds at the end of the year was 298.
The number of cowkeepers in the Borough is now 19, the same
as last year, one having been added to and one removed from the
register.
One shed has been removed from the register, as the premises
have changed hands and cowkeeping has been discontinued.
One new shed was registered during the year, providing accommodation
for six cows, while extensions added to two sheds on the
register provided accommodation for 21 extra cows.
The six sheds not at present in use may be utilised at any time, as
cowkeeping is understood to be only temporarily discontinued. In
one other case the cows are removed to farms in the country during
the summer and autumn months, the registered sheds (two in number)
being used for cowkeeping during the winter months only.
During the year seven dairymen or milk purveyors have been
removed from the register on account of the business being discontinued
or transferred and 14 dairymen or milk purveyors have been
added, leaving on the register at the end of the year 260 persons
occupying 308 sets of premises.
Nineteen notices were served on dairymen and cowkeepers during
the year relating to various matters coming under the provisions of the
Dairies, Cowsheds and Milkshops Order, and the regulations made
thereunder by the Local Authority, all of which had been complied
with at the end of the year.
