These 36 notices were duly complied with : the remainder of the
matters requiring attention were satisfactorily dealt with by verbal
notice.
Sixty-one communications were sent to H.M. Inspector of
Factories in accordance with the various requirements of the Act.
HOMEWORK.
158 lists were received from employers, containing the names of
367 outworkers residing in the Borough. 146 further names were
received from the Medical Officers of Health of various neighbouring
districts, and the names of 40 outworkers residing outside the Borough
were similarly despatched to the Medical Officer of Health for the
district concerned.
128 visits were paid to outworkers.
80 visits were made to premises of employers of outworkers for
the purpose of examining lists and other particulars.
BAKEHOUSES.
At the end of the year there were 91 Bakehouses in occupation,
of which 7 were underground. 609 visits were made by the Inspector
during the year, and 79 nuisances discovered and abated.
WORKPLACES.
At the end of the year there were 90 workplaces on the register.
92 visits to eating-house kitchens have been made, and 18 notices
served for cleansing and other defects, which have been complied with.
SMOKE NUISANCES.
Forty-two observations were made, and 12 persons were cautioned.
