Births.
The 370 live births notified showed a decrease of 64
compared with last year's figure. The birth rate per 1,000 of
the population is 13.9 as against 15.6 last year. The birth
rate for England and Wales was 15.5.
Deaths.
This year we recorded 266 deaths out of a population
of 27,820 representing a death rate of 9.56 against 7.89 in
1950. The death rate for England and Wales was 12.5.
Infants Deaths.
During the year 8 infants died before reaching the age
of one year. There were 12 in 1950.
Rate of Infant Deaths under one year per 1,000 live
births was 20.7 as against 27.6 last year. That of England
and Wales was 29.6.
