Births.
The 501 live births notified showed a decrease
of 82 compared with last year's figure. The birth rate
per 1,000 of the population is 18.4 as against 22 last year.
The birth rate for England and Wales was 17.9.
Deaths.
This year we recorded 205 Deaths out of a population
of 27,190, representing a Death rate of 7.5 as
against 10.2 in 1947. The Death rate for England and
Wales was 10.8.
Infant Deaths.
During the year only 10 infants died before reaching
the age of one year.
Rate of Infant Deaths under one year, per 1,000
live births was 19.9 ,as against 36 last year. That of
England and Wales was 34.
